TP-Link N300 WiFi Extender TL-WA855RE Firmware Update. I use this TL-WA855RE as an access point to provide WLAN in AP mode on four floors of a house. In conjunction with a FRITZBox 7360 (with deactivated WLAN) as an internet router, the repeater ensures comprehensive internet coverage. The range is great, I can receive the signal two floors away, still weak but usable.

The stability of the repeaters is very good in this price segment: I have been using three units of this repeater for a year, mostly without problems (the fourth was recently ordered), one of which has a high fluctuation of WLAN clients (holiday home). Recently the repeater with the high client fluctuation had to be restarted because it no longer accepted any new clients. Otherwise there were no abnormalities, all repeaters work flawlessly.
It is important to choose the version N300 + external antennas. The version N300 + socket is the TL-WA860RE, which is sold here at Amazon in version V1, and does NOT support AP operation. The TP-Link TL-WA855RE has a flaw: If I manually select a higher WLAN channel (e.g. 11), I have to set 20 MHz as the channel width. Auto or 40 MHz doesn\’t seem to work. Since I do not want to transmit high speeds, I just need a high level of coverage, but that is manageable.
Bought as a replacement for my previous repeater (without external antennas!). Since the apartment has reinforced concrete walls (high-rise from the 60s), the signal from the FritzBox is weak in the back room. With previous repeaters only a slight improvement was noticed. With this device, streaming (with cell phone or FireTV stick) in the bedroom is no longer a problem!
TP-Link TL-WA855RE has Quick and easy installation, good data throughput under adverse conditions (as already mentioned: reinforced concrete walls. Bluetooth connections (e.g. between cell phone and SmartWatch) break off after a good 5 meters and 2 walls. I now have WiFi in the whole apartment. Of course, the data throughput could be increased even more with powerline adapters. But these cost many times over. And this repeater fulfills its purpose (at least in my case) perfectly and satisfactorily! With other wall material, this device should be even stronger.
Well, what would you have thought with a well-known brand like TP Link. Similar to the Fritzbox systems, you already know before buying that you can\’t do anything wrong.
The setup can be done for every average consumer within 4 minutes and it is even easier with the app than via the web interface. You are guided step by step and at the end you get a great product that performs at its best 24 hours a day. I am very satisfied and would soon buy a WLAN product from TP Link again, really great!
I do not use the TP-Link TL-WA855RE as a WiFi mesh, but to convert an existing WiFi connection back into Ethernet, whereby a thick, fat concrete wall between the WiFi server and the device with the Ethernet connection has to be overcome, which unfortunately is otherwise insurmountable. The reception is flawless despite the thick concrete wall and the response time of the device is very fast, in order to establish decent pings between the two networks.
