Epson EcoTank ET-4550 Software Download. Anyone who prints a lot with their ink printer knows what printer cartridges can cost. For around 15 euros you get a color cartridge that is sufficient for a few hundred pages and is filled with ~ 15 ml of ink. This is different with the Epson EcoTank ET-4550 printer. The multifunction device also prints with ink, but without cartridges.

How does it work? The Epson printer has four large ink tanks that can hold up to 70 or 140 ml of ink. And the highlight here is that you can refill the ink yourself.

Epson’s EcoTank ET-4550 prints with ink, but it doesn’t use standard ink cartridges. Instead, the printer has large tanks on the side that are filled with printer ink. 8 bottles of 70 / 140 ml each are included in the scope of delivery, which according to the manufacturer should be enough for 11,000 printouts.

The Epson EcoTank ET-4550 is a so-called 4-in-1 device that can print, scan, fax and copy. Printing is done via USB cable, via network via the RJ-45 socket, wirelessly via WiFi or via e-mail. The Epson ET-4550 printer has its own email address. You can also address the printer directly from your smartphone or tablet and print out pictures or documents. You can find a corresponding app for iOS and Android. The print speed is 14 pages (b/w) or 7 pages per minute (color).

The ET-4550 software is used to scan from the PC / notebook. The templates can be scanned as either JPG or PDF. The scanning resolution is 1,200 dpi x 2,400 dpi.

During the copying process, individual templates can be copied directly 1:1 on the printer. Of course, the Epson EcoTank ET4550 can also create black and white copies in addition to color.

The fourth function is faxing. Templates are read in directly via the scanner and sent over the telephone line after the recipient number has been entered. If the printer drivers are installed on a PC / notebook, faxes can also be sent directly from these computers. Transferring an A4 page takes ~3 seconds. Up to 100 pages can be buffered per fax.

Control

The front of the printer has a variety of buttons and a 2.2-inch monochrome display. The printer can be configured via this display plus the buttons. The menu language can be selected from many languages.

Connections

The Epson EcoTank ET-4550 has the connection sockets for power, USB or LAN on the back. The socket for the FAX or telephone line is also located here.

Ink

The Epson EcoTank ET-4550 uses four different inks (yellow/magenta/cyan/black) for printing. When you buy it, you get 8 bottles included. You can buy a replacement bottle (color) with 70 ml in our shop for €14 each. The black ink costs, with twice the filling quantity for 4 euros more.

Test print

The test printout in DIN A4 format took almost 20 seconds in normal mode. With the highest print quality, a printout can take up to 90 seconds. The print quality is more than acceptable in normal mode and colors and transitions are well reproduced by the Epson EcoTank ET-4550 printer. The writing in black is opaque and strong.

Epson ET-4550 Printer Software

With special photo paper and photo print settings, the printout comes close to the quality of laser printers. The following images were each printed out in the best possible print quality, scanned with 1200 dpi and calculated down to 300 dpi. The files are now ~15MB in size.

The Epson EcoTank ET-4550 can also be used in various ways from a smartphone or tablet. Either via WiFi Direct, via W-LAN or via e-mail. The Epson printer provides its own W-LAN network via Wi-Fi Direct. If you have registered the printer at www.epsonconnect.com, you can now also contact the printer by e-mail. The ET-4550 is compatible with Epson Connect (iPrint, Email Print), Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.

The Epson EcoTank ET-4550 is a multi -talent with oversized ink tanks and replaces several devices at the same time. It is an inkjet printer, a scanner and a copier. You can also send and receive faxes via a telephone line. Ink is used for printing, although the ET-4550 does not use classic ink cartridges.

Instead, the EcoTank ET-4550 has four large tanks for the printer ink. These each hold 70 or 140 ml of ink. This is also the advantage over a classic inkjet printer. Individual ink cartridges have significantly less printer ink and are usually more expensive. With the Epson EcoTank ET-4550 you don’t have to dispose of empty ink cartridges either.

I really like the idea of the refillable ink tanks. I’m just wondering why it took so long. Normal ink printers have cartridges with 8 or 16 ml color. The ET-4550 has four tanks, each with a capacity of 70 ml.

However, the acquisition costs are slightly higher than for a “normal” 4-in-1 printer. The Epson EcoTank ET-4550 currently costs ~460 € in our shop. But you get 8 bottles with 70 ml (color) or 140 ml (black) included, which together cost around 100 €. This ink should last for some time with normal usage. The manufacturer states that you could print around 11,000 pages with this.
