Use the Logitech 3D for basically everything from WW2 flight sims to Falcon BMS and DCS and I’m happy. Of course, due to the small number of keys, you have to use a mouse and keyboard for the more complex Sims, but that’s perfectly fine.

After my first Logitech 3D, I had a couple of different HOTAS systems, including some from the absolute upper class. Of course, a 50 euro joystick cannot keep up with a 400 euro model in all aspects, but since I now only fly occasionally and no longer want to play on the fully equipped table PC but rather gamble on my notebook, I bought the Logi again.

In addition, I now play the Sims, unusually like to sit comfortably on the sofa, with the large base of the 3D ensuring sufficient stability.

The stick has a practical twist function, which is of course ideal as a replacement for a rudder. However, it should be noted that with all Logi 3D’s that I have tested, the twist axis always has an impact mostly to the left, and thus of course constantly pushes the aircraft in one direction. Twist is extremely inaccurate near zero and this is exacerbated during maneuvers.

I recommend looking at the twist axis with a joystick tool and then setting a generous dead zone for the rudder either with the Logi software or a 3rd party. That sounds like a lot of lost leeway, but as a result I was able to actuate the rudder more precisely and manage the unintentional release.

This has been known for 15 years but Logi probably never changed their production line as my second one looks and feels exactly like my first one and of course a twist function inherently comes with such limitations. I also prefer the fact that I can set the dead zone myself, rather than, like other manufacturers – who set a large unchangeable dead zone from the factory, but newcomers in particular often wonder why their plane has constant “spin”.

It’s also good that the second Logi has the same “tight” resistance as the first. At times I had HOTAS that had almost no resistance, which didn’t feel good at all and was extremely annoying.

That seems to be a matter of taste, but I notice that I can fly much more precisely with the Logi than with the lax models. Some Logi owners take out the rubber to change the resistance and precision of strong deflections.

Finally, it should be mentioned that the material feels very appealing and the keys give a stable impression.
